What are Lead Times for Custom Furniture

How long does it take to make a custom piece of furniture?

A lot goes into the making of custom furniture. It involves input from all parties to complete a custom piece in a timely fashion. Each phase of the project has its own timeline from the initial design phase to the drawing phase to the manufacturing phase.

Initial Design Phase (1-2 weeks) - In general, the initial design phase can take a couple of weeks once deposit is paid to confirm design details and approve fabrics and finishes. If you are providing us with fabric/leather specs for us to order, we will receive the fabric rolls and send you CFAs (cuttings for approval) to ensure the colors match your design intent. We will also send stain samples if custom wood finishes are a part of your design.

Drawing Phase (4-5 weeks) - The next phase consists of our engineers creating drawings of your piece to assist with manufacturing as well as to give you an idea of what the final piece will look like. This phase tends to take about four to five weeks and can be shorter if there aren’t many “red line” changes submitted.

Production Phase (9-12 weeks) - Once all the drawings are approved, the project moves into manufacturing which typically takes 9-12 weeks if all fabrics and special materials arrive on time.

Typically, all these phases combine to estimate about a 14-18 week timeline for creating your custom furniture from first contact to completion.
